Fresh off the needles

Hey there crafty bitches! What is everyone working on this week? I just finished a project and couldn’t wait to post about it. I just finished yet another dice bag for the hubby! Another dice bag Sarah? How many have you made for your husband? How many does one man actually need? These are all great questions. I have probably made him 10 dice bags ( that is a guess off the top of my head). Now how. Many does one man need really is a personal question. I will probably make him more. I enjoy the end product. It knits up quickly.

Yarn: Yarn Bee Chloe - Dove
Needles : knit picks DPN's size?
Pattern- gamer chic dice bag ( this is usually the pattern I use)

Finished product!

On the Needles

Whats up Crafty peeps? Your Crafty Bitch Sarah here bringing a hopefully new series of posts called What's on the Needles? I learned to knit while recovering from wrist surgery- hey the pain meds told me it was a good idea... so what is on the needles? Many things I have a severe case of startitis... I love knitting and I get so excited about starting new projects. Or see a new project idea and just jump on in. This year I am going to try to be better about FINISHING projects.

So currently on the needles:

  • plush cati finished one just need to sew together. currently working on the second one body is finished but need to finish the limbs
  • rainbow scarf seed stitch- I made some beautiful rainbow gloves that are convertible and still had some yarn leftover so I thought I would make a scarf to go with it
  • miter squares... I have the Hue Shift afghan from knit picks and this has been on the back burner for a few years...
  • quick baby washcloths- I always seem to have a coworker pregnant and am expected to make something. I consider it a compliment that they want knitted baby goods but I do get tired of making them things.
  • Santa and Mrs. Claus clothes- now this is mostly finished- I need to add the embellishments and string together for next year. I might even redo a few pieces. My only real complaint about this entire kitted project is that things are done flat as opposed to doing in the round. Some pieces were difficult to do flat. Plus a few pieces looked weird after seeming them up
  • always scrap mini face washcloths
  • beekeepers quilt
Yeah, always something on the needles ... What is on your needles? Who did you learn to knit from? What is your favorite project?

Girls evening and crafts!

A couple weeks ago, me and our girls (15 & 8 year old) had the chance to have a girls evening. The men folk were off camping with Boy Scouts. Me and the girls had a nice evening here at the house. We made one of our favorite dinners of Instant pot meatloaf and mashed potatoes (yum!). We then busted out the polymer clay and played a game while they were baking.
Now I haven't worked with polymer clay for about 13 years. And I wasn't very good then (not that I am great now). I really didn't have any guide ( you tube was not yet a thing) and most of the items that were being shown on the craft shows or in Micheal's were things I was not into and/or were extremely complex i.e. canes that involved multiple colors and blending and a pasta machine. I enjoyed working with polymer clay and thought I made cool things, but looking back at them they were pretty lame. I then went to nursing school and multiple moves and some more babies... I eventually had a big purge of craft items. So all those things are lost ( THANK GOODNESS)
Back on topic- the ADD is strong today! I started watching different polymer clay videos on You tube and really wanted to try again. I bought a 'kit' off amazon ( has cheap polymer clay and tools and some weird findings) and a couple other items (ball tools, rolling pin, eye loop things, etc). We gathered around the table and followed along off the video. We made some super cute chubby dinos and with the little bit of left over clay we had out and already conditioned the girls made donuts. We baked them according to directions on the package and allowed them to cool overnight. Unfortunately our dinos cracked! They are still cute but should not be moved around.

Things we learned form this craft session:

  • Quality of clay matters ( this clay was cheap )
  • Condition! Condition! Condition! This helps gets the clay in a workable state
  • Not to thick or it takes forever to bake! These little dinos took close to an hour to bake.
  • Don't think you will get it perfect the first time.
  • Don't bake these items when you are really wanting to go to bed.
  • Have fun!
We can't wait to make some more polymer clay projects! I don't know what we will make next but I am sure we will enjoy it! I even bought some cute open ornaments to make like little scenes.

My first kawaii face!

Our completed projects
Have you ever worked with polymer clay? What is your favorite project? Do you follow someone on social media who works with polymer clay? If so who so we can get some more inspiration! What is a craft you have wanted to try but are unsure about? Leave your answers in the comments below. 'Til next time, stay crafty bitches!
